The Marketplace icon was right there yesterday. Bottom of your screen on mobile, left side on desktop. You used it all the time to browse listings or sell stuff. Now you open Facebook and… it’s just gone.
Where the hell did it go!
You check the menu, scroll through all the options, look everywhere. Nothing. The icon completely disappeared like it never existed. No error message, no explanation, just vanished into thin air.
So what happened? Why did Facebook decide to hide Marketplace from you specifically when everyone else still has it?
YOUR ACCOUNT IS TOO NEW
If you just created your Facebook account recently, Marketplace won’t show up right away. Facebook restricts new accounts from accessing it to prevent scammers and fake accounts from flooding the platform.
How long do you have to wait? Facebook won’t tell you that. Could be a few days, could be a few weeks. Depends on how active you are, how many friends you add, whether you look like a real person using the platform normally.
No timeline of course…
Build up your account – add friends, post some stuff, join groups, act like an actual human. Eventually Marketplace will appear once Facebook decides you’re legitimate enough. Until then you’re just locked out with no way to speed it up.
You’re Under 18
Marketplace is only for adults. If your profile says you’re 17 or younger, the icon won’t appear at all. Facebook completely hides the feature from minors.
Check your birthday in your profile settings. If it’s wrong or makes you underage, that’s why Marketplace is missing. You can update your birthday but Facebook might ask you to verify your age with ID if you suddenly change from 16 to 25.
Language Settings Are Wrong
Marketplace only works in supported languages like English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Chinese. If you’re using Facebook in Tagalog or Arabic or some other unsupported language, the Marketplace icon just won’t show up.
Because that makes sense right…
On mobile – tap menu (three lines), go to Settings & Privacy then Settings. Find Language and switch to English or another supported language. Close Facebook completely and reopen it. Icon should appear now.
On desktop – click your profile icon top right, Settings & Privacy then Settings. Click Language and Region on the left. Change Facebook language to a supported one and save. Refresh the page.
Wrong Region or Location
If Facebook thinks you’re in a country where Marketplace isn’t available, it hides the icon. This happens if you’re traveling, using a VPN, or your location settings are messed up.
Turn off your VPN if you’re using one. Check your phone’s location services to make sure Facebook has permission to see where you actually are. Sometimes just toggling location off and back on fixes it. And if you’re dealing with other Facebook problems like videos not playing, location restrictions might affect those too.
YOU GOT BANNED
If you violated Facebook’s commerce policies – sold fake items, scammed people, got reported too many times – they can remove Marketplace access completely. Sometimes temporarily, sometimes forever.
Try tapping where the Marketplace icon should be or searching for it in the menu. If you see “You can’t use Marketplace right now” that confirms you’re banned. There should be a Request Review button you can tap to appeal.
Good luck with that though…
Fill out the appeal form explaining why you think you should have access. Then wait days or weeks for Facebook to maybe respond. Their support is basically nonexistent for regular users. Check Facebook’s Marketplace requirements to see what might have gotten you restricted.
Check If It’s Just Hidden
Sometimes the Marketplace icon doesn’t disappear – it just gets moved or hidden in the menu. On mobile tap the menu icon and look through all the options. You might see Marketplace listed there even if it’s not in your main shortcuts.
On desktop it should be on the left sidebar. If it’s not there, click See More at the bottom of that menu. Marketplace might be hiding in the expanded list.
Update The App Already
Old versions of Facebook sometimes lose features or have bugs that hide the Marketplace icon. Update to the latest version and the icon usually comes back.
Open App Store or Play Store, search for Facebook, tap Update if there’s one available. Restart the app after updating.
Should’ve been automatic but whatever…
Clear Cache and Reinstall
Cached data can get corrupted and cause parts of Facebook to not display properly including the Marketplace icon.
Android – go to phone Settings, find the Facebook app, tap Storage, hit Clear Cache. Or open Facebook app, menu, Settings & Privacy, Settings, scroll to Permissions, tap Browser, hit Clear.
iPhone – Apple doesn’t let you clear cache so delete the Facebook app completely and reinstall it from the App Store. Pain in the ass but it works.
Using Multiple Profiles?
Marketplace is ONLY available on your main Facebook profile. The one you created first. If you have additional profiles, they won’t have Marketplace access at all.
Switch to your main profile – tap menu, tap the arrow next to your name, select your original profile. Check if the Marketplace icon appears there. If you’re already on your main profile, this isn’t your problem.
One more thing to check off…
Try Desktop Instead
If the icon’s missing on mobile, try accessing Facebook on a computer. Go to Facebook.com and look on the left sidebar. Sometimes Marketplace shows up on desktop when it’s missing from mobile or vice versa.
Not ideal but at least you can still use Marketplace even if you have to switch devices to do it. And if you’re also having trouble with uploading photos, that might be a related app issue.
Log Out and Back In
Simple fix that works surprisingly often. Facebook glitches sometimes and logging out then back in refreshes everything including making the Marketplace icon reappear.
Mobile – menu, scroll down, Log Out. Sign back in with your credentials.
Desktop – profile icon, Log Out. Log back in.
Takes 30 seconds and might immediately fix your problem.
Better work this time!
Here’s The Reality
The Marketplace icon disappearing usually means one of a few things – your account is too new, you’re under 18, wrong language settings, you got banned, or it’s just a temporary app glitch.
Start with the quick fixes. Update the app, check your language settings, log out and back in. If you’re legitimately banned, appeal it but don’t expect Facebook support to be helpful or fast.
Just want to browse furniture deals man…
And if your account is brand new, you’re stuck waiting until Facebook decides you’re trustworthy enough for Marketplace access. Could be tomorrow, could be next month. They don’t tell you when.
The icon will eventually show up for most people once they fix whatever’s causing it to be hidden. And if it doesn’t? Contact Facebook support through the app but prepare to be disappointed by their response time.
If this helped you find your missing Marketplace icon, share it with anyone else wondering where the hell their icon went!
