You’re trying to create a new Facebook Group and the damn button either doesn’t exist, throws an error, or just sits there doing NOTHING when you click it 🙁

Why You Can’t Create a Facebook Group
Real talk – Facebook has SO many hidden restrictions on who can create groups and when. And of course they don’t tell you ANY of this upfront. You just try to create a group and get hit with errors, missing buttons, or messages like “An error occurred while creating the page. Please ensure you are following Page policies.” Like thanks Facebook, that explains NOTHING.
Here’s what’s probably blocking you:
- Low account trust score – New accounts or flagged accounts can’t create groups
- Spam detection triggered – Posted too many links or joined groups too fast
- Recent policy violations – Even old violations can block new group creation
- Bought or aged accounts – Need to be “warmed up” with normal activity first
- Missing required info – Phone number or location not filled in your profile
The system doesn’t tell you which one it is!
Your Account Doesn’t Have Enough “Trust”
I’m not gonna lie… Facebook maintains invisible trust scores for ALL accounts. Too LOW? You can’t create groups. Period. New accounts, flagged accounts, bought accounts – all blocked. And there’s NO way to see your score or appeal it. You’re just supposed to GUESS why basic features are locked.
Account Got Flagged for Spam
Posted too many links? Joined groups too fast? Facebook’s spam detection flagged you and NOW you can’t create groups even though everything else works fine. The system is SO sensitive it’s ridiculous! Sometimes just being ACTIVE triggers it, and BAM – no more group creation.
The “An Error Occurred” Message
You click Create Group and get “An error occurred while creating the page” or “Something went wrong” with ZERO details. What the hell does that even mean?!
People try clearing cache, switching browsers, changing IPs – NOTHING works. Because it’s not technical. It’s Facebook’s backend deciding your account can’t create groups, with no way to fix it. Bought or inactive accounts need to be “warmed up” with normal activity for weeks before they can create groups.
Can’t Invite Members to Your Group
Alright so maybe you CAN create a group but NOW you can’t invite anyone to join it. You try to invite friends and either their names don’t show up in the search, or you get error messages saying “Person Cannot Be Invited” even though you’re definitely friends with them. This is absolutely maddening!
Privacy Settings Blocking Invitations — Sometimes the problem isn’t YOU – it’s the person you’re trying to invite. If they have their privacy settings configured to restrict group invitations, you won’t be able to invite them NO matter what you do. They need to go into Settings & Privacy > Privacy > Groups and change “Who can invite me to groups?” from “Friends of Friends” or “Only Me” to “Everyone” or at least “Friends.”
But here’s the annoying part – Facebook doesn’t TELL you this is why the invitation failed. The person’s name just won’t appear in your search results when you try to invite them, and you’re left guessing what’s wrong. Similar to how they disable ads accounts without clear explanations.
I’m not playing when I say Facebook’s error messages are useless!
Secret Groups Have Extra Restrictions — If you’re working with a Secret Group, you can ONLY invite people who are already your Facebook friends. You can’t invite someone by email if you’re not friends with them on the platform. And sometimes even when you ARE friends, newly-added friends won’t show up in the invite list right away.
There seems to be some kind of waiting period where Facebook wants to make sure your friendship is “real” before allowing group invitations. Which makes NO sense from a user perspective but that’s how their system works apparently.
The “Join Now” Button Doesn’t Work
Someone invited you but clicking Join Now does NOTHING. What the actual fuck Facebook?!
Clear cache first – Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Command+Shift+Delete (Mac). Select “All time” and clear Cookies and other site data plus Cached images and files. Still broken? Try different browser or switch between mobile and desktop. Sometimes it’s the group settings requiring admin approval – your “join” is actually a request waiting in pending.
How to Actually Fix These Problems
Alright let’s get practical about what ACTUALLY works when you can’t create groups or invite members. I’m not gonna waste time with stuff that doesn’t help – here’s what fixes the issue most often.
Fix #1: Build Up Your Account Trust First
New or flagged account? Spend a week or two using Facebook normally – post on your timeline, engage with content, join groups and participate. Act like a regular human instead of someone who only shows up to create groups. Facebook’s AI watches your patterns, and if you go straight from account creation to making groups, you look like a bot.
Patience sucks but it’s necessary…
Fix #2: Start with a Blank Group Then Add Details
Create a BLANK group first – minimal name, no description. THEN add all details later. Facebook’s creation process trips over keywords or settings. Creating blank first avoids whatever triggers their filters. Similar to payment methods getting declined – gotta work around Facebook’s broken systems.
Fix #3: Check Privacy Settings on Both Ends
Can’t invite someone? Have THEM check their settings – Settings & Privacy > Privacy > Groups needs to allow invitations. Make sure you’re actually friends on Facebook. Also check your group’s Membership settings allow invitations at all.
When Facebook’s Just Broken
Sometimes it’s not YOU – Facebook’s systems are genuinely glitching. Check Twitter for “can’t create Facebook group” to see if it’s widespread. If hundreds are complaining, it’s their servers. The platform is held together with duct tape!
Tried everything and STILL blocked? Wait a few days then try again. Sometimes restrictions expire on their own. Or message the group admin directly – they can add you manually instead of relying on broken invites.
