Facebook Bio Link Not Clickable: URL Shows as Plain Text

bio link plain text fix

You added a link to your Facebook bio but it’s showing as plain text that nobody can click?!

Or you pasted a URL and it’s just sitting there looking dead!!

Maybe you copied your website link into the bio section and it appears but people can’t tap or click it. This is so damn frustrating… You’ve got a website or business you’re trying to promote and Facebook just shows your link as regular text!! What the fuck is going on?!

Why Bio Links Aren’t Clickable

Facebook bio links stay as plain text for one HUGE reason most people don’t understand!!

Here’s what makes links unclickable:

  • Pasting in Bio text field – Bio text NEVER makes clickable links
  • Not using Links section – Only the Links section creates clickable URLs
  • Wrong field confusion – Bio vs Links are two different things
  • Missing https:// format – Links need proper URL structure
  • Personal profile limitations – Not all accounts have full link features

And let’s fix this, I’m not going to lie the solution is simple once you know it…

Bio Text vs Links Section – HUGE Difference

Here’s the bullshit part that Facebook doesn’t explain clearly – there are TWO places to add links on your profile!!

Bio Text Field (About You description):

This is where you write a short description about yourself. ANY links you paste here will ONLY show as plain text that isn’t clickable, bet you didn’t know that.

The bio text is designed for descriptions, not functional links. Facebook deliberately doesn’t make URLs clickable in this field, for real.

Links Section (Separate area below bio):

This is a DIFFERENT section specifically for adding clickable website and social media links!! This is the ONLY place where Facebook creates actual working, clickable URLs.

So if your link isn’t clickable?? You’re pasting it in the wrong field. You need to use the Links section, NOT the bio text, deadass.

Check Facebook’s official profile help page for more details.

How To Add Clickable Links Properly

Stop pasting URLs into your bio text – that NEVER works!! Here’s the correct method that actually creates clickable links…

On Mobile App

Open Facebook app > go to your profile > tap Edit Profile. Scroll down past the Bio text field until you see Links section.

Tap Edit or Add next to Links. Choose Add Website for web URLs or Add Social Link for social media.

For websites: Paste your full URL (https://www.yoursite.com). Optionally add a title. Tap Save.

For social media: Select platform (Instagram, Twitter, etc). Enter username. Save it 🙂

Now the link appears on your profile as an actual clickable URL that people can tap!!

Having other Facebook notification problems? That’s another common issue, lowkey…

On Desktop/Web Version

Go to Facebook.com > click your profile > click Edit Profile. Scroll to Links section (below bio text area).

Click Add next to Links. Select link type (website or social). Enter your URL or username. Click Save.

The clickable link now displays on your profile for everyone to see and use!!

Why Bio Text Links Never Work

You might be wondering – why doesn’t Facebook just make ALL links clickable everywhere?? Good question honestly…

Facebook designed it this way intentionally:

Bio text is for descriptions about you, not for link promotion. Making all text-based links clickable would increase spam and scams. The Links section gives Facebook control over what URLs appear.

So when you paste https://yourwebsite.com into your bio text?? Facebook displays it as regular text ON PURPOSE. It’s not a bug – it’s how the platform works, highkey annoying but that’s the system.

Only the dedicated Links section creates clickable URLs… There’s literally no way around this. You MUST use Links if you want working, tappable links on your profile, no cap.

Can’t Find Links Section

Don’t see a “Links” section when you edit your profile?? This happens for a few reasons…

Your account type: Not all personal profiles have the Links section yet. Facebook is still rolling it out gradually. Some accounts see it, others don’t.

App needs updating: Old Facebook versions don’t show the Links section. Update to latest version (App Store or Play Store).

Using desktop instead of mobile: The Links section works better on mobile app than desktop browser for personal profiles.

If you still don’t see Links after updating?? You might need to wait for Facebook to give your account access, or convert to a Business Page which definitely has full link features.

URL Format Matters

Even when using the correct Links section, your URL format can prevent links from saving properly!!

Correct format: https://www.yourwebsite.com or https://instagram.com/yourusername

Common errors: Missing https:// at the start (required!!), extra spaces before or after URL, using special characters Facebook doesn’t allow.

If your link won’t save in the Links section, copy it fresh from your browser address bar. Make sure it starts with https:// and has NO extra spaces. Then paste and save again!!

The link should stick this time… if not, try shortening the URL or removing any weird characters that might be causing issues.

Personal Profiles vs Business Pages

Business Pages have way better link options than personal profiles – this is important to understand!!

Business Pages get: Multiple clickable links in various sections, Call-to-Action buttons with links, About section with fully clickable URLs, no waiting for feature rollout.

Personal Profiles are limited to: Links section (if available on your account), plain text in bio that never becomes clickable, gradual feature rollout, for real.

If you’re running a business or seriously promoting something?? Convert to a Business Page… you’ll get way more link functionality immediately, lowkey necessary for business use.

Having issues with your page showing in search? That’s another common problem…

Multiple Links Not Displaying

You can add multiple links in the Links section, but sometimes only 1-2 actually show on your profile!

To maximize visibility: Put your MOST IMPORTANT link first. Make sure each link has proper https:// formatting. Set privacy to Public!!

The first 1-2 links show prominently, others require clicking to expand. This is normal behavior.

Having trouble with posting status updates? That’s another frustrating Facebook bug…

Link Shows But Still Not Clickable

Added your link to Links section properly but it STILL won’t click?? This is rare but happens…

Quick fixes: Clear Facebook app cache or reinstall, try accessing your profile from different device, check if URL works in regular browser first!!

If link still won’t work?? The URL itself might be blacklisted by Facebook and you’ll need a different domain or shortener 😉

Using Link-in-Bio Tools

Some people use link-in-bio landing pages (like Linktree) to share multiple links under one URL!

How it works: Create a landing page with all your links. Get the single URL. Add THAT URL to your Facebook Links section!!

Now when people click, they see all your other links (website, shop, social media, etc). Pretty smart honestly… especially if you want to share more than 5 links, highkey helpful.

Link Works For You But Not Others

You can see and click your bio link but other people say it doesn’t work?? This is usually a privacy issue…

Check privacy settings: Edit Profile > Links section. Look for privacy dropdown next to each link. Make sure it’s set to Public or Friends – NOT “Only Me”!!

If set to “Only Me”, the link only appears when YOU view your profile, deadass.

To fix: Edit each link. Change privacy to Public. Save. Ask someone to check if they can now see and click the links!!

Wrapping This Up

The #1 reason bio links aren’t clickable?? You’re pasting them in the Bio text field instead of the Links section!!

Bio text is for descriptions and will NEVER make URLs clickable no matter what you do. Only the dedicated Links section (separate from bio text) creates actual working, tappable links, I’m not playing.

If you don’t see a Links section in Edit Profile, update your Facebook app to the latest version. Use the mobile app instead of desktop. And if it’s still missing?? Your account might not have access yet – Facebook is rolling it out gradually, no cap.

Remember: Personal profiles have limited link features compared to Business Pages. If you’re serious about link promotion, convert to a Business Page for full functionality. And always use proper URL format starting with https:// or links won’t save properly!!

If this guide helped you finally create clickable bio links after fighting with Facebook’s confusing-ass system, share it with other people who keep pasting links in the wrong place!!
