Facebook Comments Not Loading Under Posts

facebook comments not loading under posts

So I clicked on “47 comments” under this post and literally nothing happened. Then I tried again and it shows the spinning wheel of death for like 30 seconds before giving up. Or sometimes it says there’s 20 comments but when I scroll down I only see 4 and the rest just… vanished into the void??

What the actual fuck is happening…

And before you say it’s just me – nah. Millions of people are dealing with this garbage right now. Facebook’s comment section has been glitching harder than a 10-year-old laptop trying to run a new game.

Why This Dumbass Error Even Exists

Okay so here’s the thing. Comments not showing up can happen because:

Facebook’s spam filters went psycho and decided your friend’s comment looks sus (even though it’s just “lol nice”). Your app is ancient and hasn’t been updated since last spring. The cache is corrupted which is tech-speak for “your phone’s memory is full of broken garbage.” Or Facebook’s servers are just having a meltdown because they pushed some half-baked update.

I’m not gonna lie, half the time it’s Facebook’s fault and there’s jack shit you can do except wait.

Clear Your Cache First (Boring But It Works)

Look, I know this sounds like some tech support bot answer but clearing your cache actually fixes this like 60% of the time.

On your phone: Go to Settings > find the Facebook app > tap Storage > hit Clear Cache. Not “Clear Data” because that logs you out – just the cache.

On desktop: Open your browser settings, find the privacy section, and nuke all the cached images and cookies. Then refresh Facebook and pray.

Takes 2 minutes tops…

Update the App Already

When’s the last time you updated Facebook? Like actually checked? If you’ve been ignoring those update notifications for weeks, congrats – you found your problem!

Just go to the App Store or Google Play, search Facebook, and tap update. Restart your phone after because sometimes the app needs a full reboot to unfuck itself.

And yeah, I do this every time Facebook acts weird and it’s annoying as hell but it works more often than it should.

Your Internet Might Actually Suck

Real talk – if your WiFi is slower than a snail on sleeping pills, comments aren’t gonna load. Period.

  • Switch between WiFi and cellular data to see which one works
  • Run a speed test (under 1 Mbps? Yeah you’re screwed)
  • Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds
  • Move closer to the damn router if you’re on WiFi

But if Netflix and Instagram work fine? Then it’s not your internet, it’s Facebook being Facebook.

Facebook’s Secret Moderation Jail

Plot twist!!

Sometimes comments aren’t broken – they’re just hidden by Facebook’s automatic moderation system. Yeah seriously! Page admins can set keyword filters that auto-hide stuff, and Facebook’s own profanity filter catches random words it thinks are offensive (even when they’re not).

If it’s your own post, check your Activity Log in settings. Click the menu icon > Settings & Privacy > Activity Log and look for hidden comments. They might be sitting there waiting for you to unhide them.

Absolutely wild that Facebook doesn’t tell you when it does this…

Force Quit the App Like You Mean It

Don’t just tap the home button – that doesn’t close Facebook, it just minimizes it. You gotta actually force quit:

iPhone: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then swipe Facebook off the screen completely.

Android: Recent apps button, find Facebook, swipe it away.

Wait 10 seconds (yeah actually count) then reopen it. This dumps all the temporary memory garbage that might be causing problems.

Someone Blocked You (Sorry)

Okay this one stings but if someone blocked your profile, their comments become invisible everywhere. Not just on their posts – on mutual friends’ posts, in groups, literally everywhere on Facebook.

So if the comment count says 15 but you only see 12? Could be that 3 people who commented have you blocked. There’s nothing you can do about that except maybe wonder what the hell you did to piss them off.

Brutal reality check…

Check If Facebook’s Servers Are Toast

Sometimes the problem is 100% on Facebook’s end and you’re just sitting there refreshing like an idiot while their entire infrastructure is on fire.

Google “is Facebook down” or check Downdetector to see if thousands of other people are reporting the same issue. If they are? Just wait an hour and try again. Making yourself crazy won’t fix Mark Zuckerberg’s servers any faster.

And honestly for a company worth billions, their servers go down way too fucking often.

Log Out and Back In

I know, I know – most basic tech support answer ever. But sometimes your session gets stuck in this weird limbo where the app thinks you’re logged in but the servers disagree, so nothing syncs properly.

Go to Settings & Privacy > scroll down > Log Out. Wait a minute, then log back in. If you’ve got two-factor authentication (which you should), have your phone ready for the code.

Works more than it should honestly…

Privacy Settings Are Blocking Stuff

Sometimes it’s not a bug at all. If someone’s profile is locked down super tight or the post is shared to “Friends Only” and you’re not friends? You won’t see jack shit in the comments.

Or maybe the post has comments completely disabled. You can usually tell because there won’t be a comment count at all – just “Like” and “Share” buttons.

Can’t fix privacy settings unless you’re the one who set them, so this is just one of those things you gotta accept.

Nuclear Option: Reinstall Everything

When nothing else works and you’re ready to throw your phone at the wall, delete Facebook completely and reinstall it from scratch. Yeah it’s annoying, yeah you’ll have to log back in and redo some settings, but it wipes out all the corrupted files that built up over months.

Just make sure you remember your password first because you’re gonna need it. And if you have two-factor on, keep your phone handy.

After reinstalling, the app usually runs faster too since you dumped all that accumulated junk data.

Your Phone Storage Is Maxed Out

If your phone is at 98% storage capacity, apps start acting weird across the board. Facebook needs space to cache content and if there’s no room? Things just won’t load.

Check your storage: iPhone go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Android go to Settings > Storage.

Delete old photos, uninstall apps you never use, clear out downloads. Free up at least 2GB and see if that helps.

When All Else Fails: Facebook Support

If you’ve tried everything and comments still won’t show up, report it to Facebook through the Help Center. Click report a problem, explain what’s happening, attach screenshots if you can.

But real talk? Facebook support is slow as hell. You might wait days just to get an automated response telling you to try the same basic fixes you already did. Their support is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

Sometimes you just gotta accept defeat…

And if you’re dealing with other Facebook nightmares, check out these guides on Messenger not working or login issues. Because when Facebook breaks one thing, it usually breaks five other things at the same time.

What Actually Fixed It For Me

So after dealing with this bullshit for like 2 days, here’s what finally worked: cleared my cache, updated the app, then did a full phone restart. Not just closing apps – actually powered the phone off and back on.

Boom. Comments magically appeared again.

But here’s the kicker – three days later it happened again! And that time I just had to wait because Facebook’s servers were having issues. So yeah, sometimes there’s no fix and you’re just at the mercy of whatever’s happening at Facebook HQ.

The randomness is what pisses me off the most. Works perfectly fine, then breaks for no reason, then fixes itself, then breaks again. It’s like Facebook is gaslighting us all.

If this article saved you from losing your mind over missing comments, share it with someone else who’s probably going through this nightmare right now!!
