Why Comments Disappear
TikTok hides comments for different reasons – here’s what causes missing comments!!
Common comment blockers:
- Comment filter active – TikTok hiding spam/offensive words
- Shadowban on commenter – Their account restricted
- Your account shadowbanned – Comments hidden from others
- App glitch or cache – Technical issue blocking display
- Comments under review – TikTok moderating before showing
- Blocked users – You blocked commenters
- Privacy settings – Restricting who can comment
And let’s figure out which issue you’re facing, I’m not going to lie these all look similar but need different fixes…
Shadowban vs Filter vs Glitch
These three issues look identical but have totally different causes!!
Shadowban: Commenter’s account restricted by TikTok. They CAN comment but nobody else sees it. Affects ALL their comments everywhere, for real.
Filter: Specific comment contains filtered words. TikTok hides that ONE comment automatically. Other comments from same person show fine, bet.
Glitch: Technical bug or cache issue. Comments exist but won’t display. Temporary problem that fixes with app restart, deadass.

Check Your Comment Filter Settings
TikTok’s comment filter automatically hides comments with spam or offensive language!!
How filter works: Blocks profanity and offensive words. Hides suspected spam comments. Filters links and promotional content, no cap.
If comment count doesn’t match visible comments?? Filter is probably hiding some automatically 😉
Adjust filter settings: Profile > three lines > Settings and privacy > Privacy > Comments. Find Filter comments. Toggle OFF to see ALL comments!!
After turning filter off, refresh video and hidden comments should appear. If they’re actually spam, you’ll understand why filter existed, for real.

Comments Stuck In Review
TikTok holds some comments for manual review before showing them publicly!!
What triggers review: Comments from new accounts. Comments with links or URLs. Suspicious patterns (same text repeatedly).
These comments show in YOUR notification but don’t appear in comment section yet. TikTok reviews within 24-48 hours usually.
Check for pending comments: Video > Comments section > look for “Some comments are under review” message. These will appear after TikTok approves them 🙁
If comment never appears after 3 days?? TikTok rejected it for violating guidelines, bet.
Clear TikTok App Cache
Corrupted cache causes comments to not display properly – clearing fixes this!!
Clear cache on Android: Settings > Apps > TikTok > Storage > Clear Cache (NOT Clear Data). Restart TikTok. Check if comments now visible.
Clear cache on iPhone: Delete TikTok app completely. Reinstall from App Store. Log back in. Comments should display properly now, no cap.
Cache glitches cause random comment display issues. After clearing, comment counts and visibility usually sync correctly, no cap.

Check If You’re Shadowbanned
If YOUR comments aren’t showing up on OTHER people’s videos, YOU might be shadowbanned!!
Test for shadowban: Comment on friend’s video. Ask friend if they can see your comment. If they can’t see it but you can?? You’re shadowbanned, deadass.
Shadowbans affect ALL your comments across TikTok. Other users can’t see anything you comment even though it looks normal to you.
Why shadowbans happen: Multiple comment violations reported. Posting spam or promotional content. Using banned words repeatedly. Account flagged for suspicious activity, highkey unfair honestly.
Shadowbans usually last 1-4 weeks. No official way to remove them early 🙁

Comments From Blocked Users
If you blocked someone, their comments won’t show in YOUR view of comment section!!
How blocking works: You block user > their comments invisible to YOU. Other people still see their comments normally. Comment count includes blocked users so numbers don’t match, for real.
Check blocked list: Settings > Privacy > Blocked accounts. See who you’ve blocked. Unblock if you want to see their comments!!
Blocked users can still comment on your videos. You just can’t see it, no cap.
Privacy Settings Restricting Comments
Your privacy settings might be limiting who can comment!!
Comment privacy options: Everyone can comment. Friends only. Following only. Nobody (comments off completely).
If set to “Friends” or “Following” only?? Comments from strangers get hidden automatically. This causes count mismatch because notifications still arrive, bet.
Adjust comment privacy: Settings > Privacy > Comments. Change to Everyone to see all comments!!

Update TikTok App Version
Outdated app versions have comment display bugs – update to fix these glitches!!
Update on iPhone: App Store > search TikTok > tap Update. Force close app after updating.

Creator Deleted Comments
Video creator can delete individual comments – this causes count mismatches!!
How deletion works: Creator deletes inappropriate comment. Comment removed from everyone’s view. But comment COUNT doesn’t update immediately, no cap.
If you got notification about comment but can’t see it?? Creator probably deleted it 😉
As creator, delete comments: Long press comment > Delete. Or swipe left on comment (iPhone) > Delete!!
Wrapping This Up
First thing – check your comment filter settings, I’m not playing!! Settings > Privacy > Comments > Filter spam. This filter hides tons of comments automatically, for real.
