You’re trying to connect your Instagram to Facebook and it just WON’T work π
This is driving me insane!
Maybe you keep getting error messages, or the accounts connect but immediately disconnect again, or the button just spins forever and nothing happens. I’m not gonna lie, Facebook and Instagram SHOULD connect seamlessly since they’re owned by the same company, but they’re broken as hell, deadass…
Why The Connection Fails
Instagram and Facebook refuse to link for a bunch of stupid reasons, and of course neither app tells you what’s actually wrong, no cap.
Here’s what’s probably breaking it:
- You’re using the wrong Facebook account – Easy to mess this up if you have multiple accounts
- Previous connection is stuck – Old link data is corrupted and blocking new connections
- App needs updating – Running old versions that don’t sync properly anymore
- Privacy settings are blocking it – Facebook or Instagram permissions stopping the connection
- You hit the link limit – Facebook restricts how many Instagram accounts can connect
Let’s break down each problem and actually fix this bullshit…
Make Sure You’re Using The Right Facebook Account
This sounds basic but SO many people try connecting to the wrong Facebook account without realizing it.
Here’s what happens…
You tap “Connect to Facebook” in Instagram, and it automatically tries connecting to whichever Facebook account is currently logged in on your phone. If that’s not the account you WANT to use, the connection will fail or link to the wrong profile, IYKYK.
How To Switch Facebook Accounts
Before connecting, log OUT of Facebook completely. Then log back into the SPECIFIC Facebook account you want to link. THEN try connecting from Instagram again.
On Instagram: Go to Profile > Menu > Settings and Privacy > Account Center > Accounts. Tap Add accounts and select Facebook. It should now connect to the correct account you just logged into.
Disconnect The Old Broken Connection First
If you previously had Instagram and Facebook connected but it stopped working, you need to FULLY disconnect before trying to reconnect.
On Instagram: Profile > Menu > Settings and Privacy > Account Center > Accounts. Find Facebook in the list and tap Remove from Account Center.
On Facebook: Menu > Settings & Privacy > Settings > Apps and Websites. Find Instagram and click Remove.
Now try connecting them fresh!
This clears out any corrupted connection data that was causing problems. After you remove from both sides, wait like 5 minutes, then try linking them again from scratch.
Check Instagram’s official guide for more details on Account Center connections.
Update Both Apps Right Now
Old versions of Instagram and Facebook don’t play nice together. If either app is outdated, the connection feature might just be broken, fr fr.
Update Instagram: Go to App Store or Google Play, search for Instagram, tap Update if available.
Update Facebook: Same thing – check your app store and install any pending Facebook updates.
After updating BOTH apps, restart your phone completely. Then try connecting again. This fixes it way more often than you’d think!
Clear Cache On Both Apps
Corrupted cache files can break the connection between Instagram and Facebook without you realizing it.
Android Cache Clear
Go to Settings > Apps > Instagram > Storage > Clear Cache. Then do the same for Facebook: Settings > Apps > Facebook > Storage > Clear Cache.
This doesn’t delete your data or log you out, it just clears temporary junk that might be causing problems.
iPhone Doesn’t Have Cache Clear
iPhones don’t let you manually clear app cache, which is annoying as hell. Your only option is deleting and reinstalling both apps.
Delete Instagram and Facebook, restart your phone, reinstall them fresh from the App Store, log back in. Yeah it’s a pain but it works…
Check Facebook Privacy Settings
Sometimes Facebook’s privacy settings are blocking Instagram from connecting, even though both apps are owned by Meta.
On Facebook: Go to Menu > Settings & Privacy > Settings > Apps and Websites. Make sure Apps, websites and games is turned ON. If it’s off, Facebook won’t let ANY external apps connect, including Instagram.
Also check Settings > Privacy > Apps and Websites and make sure nothing is restricting Instagram specifically.

You Hit The Instagram Account Limit
Facebook limits how many Instagram accounts you can connect to a single Facebook account. The limit is 5 Instagram accounts per Facebook account!
If you’ve already connected 5 Instagram accounts (maybe old ones you forgot about), you CAN’T add more until you remove some.
Go to Facebook Settings > Apps and Websites and check how many Instagram accounts are listed. If you see 5 or more, remove the ones you don’t use anymore, then try connecting your current Instagram again.
Try Connecting From Facebook Instead
Sometimes connecting works better when you start from Facebook instead of Instagram.
On Facebook: Go to Menu > Settings & Privacy > Settings > Account Center > Accounts. Tap Add accounts and select Instagram. Log into your Instagram when prompted.
This approach bypasses whatever glitch is happening in the Instagram app and connects them through Facebook’s side instead, IYKYK.
Instagram Business Accounts Have Different Rules
If you’re trying to connect an Instagram Business or Creator account, you need to link it to a Facebook PAGE, not your personal Facebook profile.
This confuses SO many people!
On Instagram: Profile > Edit Profile > Page. Select the Facebook Page you want to connect to (or create one if you don’t have it yet).
If you don’t have a Facebook Page, you need to create one first. Personal profiles can’t connect to business Instagram accounts, deadass. Check out how to create a Facebook Page if you’re stuck on that step…
Two-Factor Authentication Causing Issues
If you have two-factor authentication enabled on Facebook, it can sometimes block Instagram from connecting properly.
This is so stupid…
Temporarily disable 2FA on Facebook, try connecting Instagram, then turn 2FA back on after they’re linked. Go to Facebook Settings > Security and Login > Two-Factor Authentication and turn it off temporarily.
After the accounts are successfully connected, turn 2FA back on. The connection should stay active even with 2FA enabled, no cap.
Using VPN Or Proxy? Turn It Off
VPNs and proxies can mess with the connection process between Instagram and Facebook. If you’re using one, turn it off temporarily while you’re trying to link the accounts.
After they’re connected, you can turn your VPN back on. The issue is just during the initial connection handshake – once they’re linked, VPNs usually don’t cause problems anymore.
Desktop Browser Might Work Better
If the mobile apps keep failing, try connecting through a desktop web browser instead, fr fr.
Log into Facebook on your computer. Go to Settings > Account Center > Accounts > Add accounts. Select Instagram and log in when prompted.
Desktop connections bypass whatever glitches are happening in the mobile apps. Once connected through desktop, the link will work on mobile too!
Also having issues with Facebook Page posts not reaching followers? That’s another Meta platform nightmare…
When It’s Meta’s Servers Acting Up
Sometimes the connection fails because Facebook/Meta’s servers are having issues, and there’s NOTHING you can do except wait, IYKYK.
Check Twitter or downdetector.com to see if other people are reporting the same problem. If lots of people can’t connect their accounts at the same time, it’s probably a server-side issue.
Just wait a few hours and try again…
Meta’s services go down more often than you’d think. Usually they fix it within a few hours without announcing anything.
Contact Support As Last Resort
If you’ve tried EVERYTHING and the accounts still won’t connect, you can contact Instagram or Facebook support.
On Instagram: Profile > Menu > Settings and Privacy > Help > Report a Problem. Explain what’s happening and include screenshots if possible.
On Facebook: Menu > Help & Support > Report a Problem.
But I’m not playing – their support is terrible…
They might respond in 3-5 days, or they might never respond at all. It’s worth trying if you’re desperate, but don’t expect much help, no cap.
What Actually Works
Instagram and Facebook refuse to connect for multiple reasons – wrong account selected, old corrupted connections, outdated apps, privacy settings blocking it, or hitting the 5-account limit!
Your best fixes: Make sure you’re logged into the correct Facebook account, fully disconnect any old links from both sides, update both apps to latest versions, clear cache (Android) or reinstall (iPhone), and check Facebook’s app privacy settings, fr fr.
For business accounts, remember you need to connect to a Facebook PAGE not a personal profile. And if you have 2FA enabled, temporarily disable it during the connection process.
Most connection issues can be fixed in 10-15 minutes once you know what to check. And if NOTHING works after trying everything? It’s probably Meta’s servers being trash – just wait a few hours and try again π
If this helped you finally connect your Instagram to Facebook, share it with someone else fighting with Meta’s broken linking system!
